Recreation or fun is the expenditure of time in a manner designed for therapeutic refreshment of one's body or mind. While leisure is more likely a form of entertainment or sleep, recreation is active for the participant but in a refreshing and diverting manner. As people in the world's wealthier regions lead increasingly sedentary lifestyles, the need for recreation has increased. The rise of so called active vacations exemplifies this. HealthA few individuals view recreation as largely non-productive, even trivial. Excessive recreation is not considered healthy, and may be labeled as escapism. However, research has shown that recreation contributes to satisfaction, and that the stress management aspects of it contribute to quality of life, health and wellness, happiness, and that the use of recreation as a diversion may have clinical applications to individuals with chronic pain and other health impairments. In some cultures and religions, recreation is encouraged on certain days and discouraged on others. For example, in Judaism, Shabbat is a day for recreation, study, and relaxation; many Christian churches also have Sabbath. However, others interpret Sabbath to be a day of worship without self-absorbed recreation. According to research cited in Time magazine, stress is a major factor in many of the leading causes of death in the United States. From Wikipedia under the

Careerwise though, it almost looks unprofessional and whimsical on a resume. I understand there are careers for rec administrations, but they are very broad and vague, ie. community recreation planner, corporate wellness program director, etc. I need some more information about these careers. What does one do on a day-to-day basis and how much is the salary? Asked by samhandwich22 - Fri Jul 24 08:05:29 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Recreation administrators work as camp counselors or camp directors, recreation leaders, or directors of recreation and parks. Although specific duties vary by job and work environment, recreation workers generally plan and organize fun activities--from performing arts and sports to camping or arts and crafts. Answered by unknown - Fri Jul 24 08:40:18 2009 i would like to start a recreation center for the kids in my community. What do I need to do?
Q. I'm interested in finding out where to apply for grants and possibly get private donations of money, computers, recreational equipment, etc. Where do I go? Please help! The kids in this community desperately need this center. Asked by ccsdaone - Fri Oct 3 15:00:38 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would talk to my local government first. Find out if they have a Rec Board, Parks Department, and/or Planning Commission. Individuals can not usually apply for grants (even from private foundations), so if your municipal government is not willing to take on the project, you may have to create a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. I've done it and it is not an easy task. My suggestion would be to find an existing organization or entity that might be willing to take on the project rather than trying to create a separate entity. Another option might be in going through a local church. Answered by DGS - Fri Oct 3 15:07:56 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Recreation"
